"We do not inherit this land from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children." - Haida Indian saying
This perfect columbine is Colorado's state flower!

The Herman Gulch Hike is a popular route with parking just off I70. The trailhead hike information says it's just 5-miles out-and-back, no problem! Well there is some vertical involved, from about 10,000 to 12,000ft, and the last pitch to the lake gets steep. With plenty of camera time it took 4 hours!

Take the hike in July when the snow along the trail is gone, and wildflowers are at their best. Mid way through the route is a relatively flat open area with columbines, indian paintbrush, and many other flowers, too many for me to identify.
