"Animals give me more pleasure through the viewfinder of a camera than they ever did in the crosshairs of a gunsight. I have developed a deep respect for animals. I consider them fellow living creatures with certain rights that should not be violated any more than those of humans." - Jimmy Stewart
This handsome fellow was out walking around at Sydney Botanic Gardens; a distinctive bird like this novelty to me, but probably the equivalent of a New York City pigeon to an Australian!

To the right are flying foxes hanging from a tree also in the botanic gardens. These are not cute little bats, they are big, smelly, and loud. They're mostly quiet during the day, but when there's a conflict the squealing noise can be heard from far away. They'll fill the upper branches of a tree, and cover the ground under with poop. The ground is slippery, and the small is pungent. Check out Wiggan Brush further up the Australian coast for a colony of thousands.
