This handsome fellow was out walking
around at Sydney Botanic Gardens; a distinctive bird like this novelty
to me, but probably the equivalent of a New York City pigeon to an
Australian!
To the right are flying foxes hanging from a tree also in the botanic
gardens. These are not cute little bats, they are big, smelly, and
loud. They're mostly quiet during the day, but when there's a conflict
the squealing noise can be heard from far away. They'll fill the upper
branches of a tree, and cover the ground under with poop. The ground
is slippery, and the small is pungent. Check out Wiggan Brush further
up the Australian coast for a colony of thousands. |
