Agave and Erosion
Take a vertical cut out of some soft Southern California earth, then subject it to the elements for a few years and this is what you get. The softest parts wash away and the tougher parts remain creating this interesting pattern. It's the same process that happens in a canyon, here it's just happening faster, and on a smaller scale.

This unstable scenario is why bad things can happen with continuous rain. Hillsides wash away and the landscape changes radically.

The contrast between agave plants in the foreground and erosion in the background makes an interesting shot.

There isn't much color in the scene, but plenty of highlights and shading so it works well in black and white.
