It may look like a jungle in the
tropics, but it's not. It's a backyard garden in Carmel Valley California,
just north of La Jolla.
Southern California is essentially reclaimed desert. The coast gets
a bit of rain, but the further you go inland the drier it gets until
you come to mountains. The soil is sandy, lacking organic material
that most plants need.
Yet plants like this thrive without much help.
I should know what types of plants they are, but I don't. They could
be succulents; they could be cactus, I'm not sure. Regardless, they
make for an interesting image and a really cool back yard. |
