Miner's Shack in Madrid New Mexico
Madrid New Mexico, not Spain!

Around the back side of Sandia Crest mountain, the 'Turquoise Trail' route from Albuquerque to Santa Fe passes through Madrid, a tiny artsy town with its roots in mining. The miners are gone, but structures like this remain(ed). These modest living quarters have a lot of character, especially as they slowly deteriorate in the New Mexico sun

But alas, this photo is at least ten years old, and when I visited Madrid again just a couple years ago the miner's shacks had been rebuilt, same size, same location, but all fresh wood and paint.

I guess it's progress.
