“He doesn’t need any money; all he needs is his rucksack with those little plastic bags of dried food and a good pair of shoes and off he goes and enjoys the privileges of a millionaire in surroundings like this.” - Jack Kerouac
South of Big Sur
If you've ever driven the Central California coast you went past this gorgeous spot. It's Pfeiffer Falls just south of Big Sur.

It's just a small park with a hike down to the ocean. This view is from the coast highway looking down from above.

If you're not pressed for time and traveling from southern to northern California (or vice-versa), I recommend taking the coast route instead of the inland highway. It will take quite a bit longer.

For much of it's length from Cambria to Carmel the road is cut into the side of mountains that drop off into the Pacific. It's mostly a two lane road that twists and turns, gaining and losing elevation as it follows the contours.
