This stand of trees is along Icefields
Parkway not far from Banff and Lake Louise. The parkway is a spectacular
230 kilometer (143-mile) stretch of road that spans the Canadian Rockies
between Banff and Jasper. You could drive straight through in a few
hours, or make many scenic stops along the way. The scenery keeps
you entertained as you view mountains, lakes, waterfalls, glaciers,
and wildlife.
There are many short hikes that take you to viewpoints more impressive
than you'll see through the car window. Along the hike routes you'll
pass through dense pine forests, fields of wildflowers, and if you're
lucky, native animals. For the more rugged types there are several
camping areas. Be forewarned, you'll need to make camping reservations
in advance during summer season. |
