“May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. May your mountains rise into and above the clouds.” - Edward Abbey
The Wadi is a desert preserve on the northeast side of Cairo. It's a dry river wash (wadi) surrounded by eroding canyon walls; mostly dirt and stone with a few opportunistic xerophytic plants that flower after a rare rainfall. I'd love to see it full of water after a substantial rainstorm, but I'm sure this is an extremely rare occurrence.

It's a favorite escape from the city; a huge open space, great for a run, mountain bike ride, or even four-wheelin' for the motor inclined. The feel of the place is truly 'out in the middle of nowhere' to an extent I haven't felt anywhere else. But alas, look west and the Cairo skyline can be seen from all but the lowest of elevations.

Run the Wadi!
