“He doesn’t need any money; all he needs is his rucksack with those little plastic bags of dried food and a good pair of shoes and off he goes and enjoys the privileges of a millionaire in surroundings like this.” - Jack Kerouac
This plant has such a unique look and a field of it is quite appealing. Apparently the bears like to eat it, hence the name. Fortunately, no bears in the vicinity as I took this photo!

Glacier is grizzly territory, and I did watch one from a distance quite a while one day. I was in awe and wondered how I'd react if I saw one on the trail.

At the beginning of my hike up the Grinnel Glacier Trail I spotted a note left by a thoughtful hiker who had passed through 30-minutes earlier. It read: "Grizzly spotted 50 yards up trail 7:15 a.m." I was hiking solo, humm...

After reading the note I made my presence known. I was making a lot of noise, whistling, humming, singing, even exchanging platitudes with an imaginary bear. Other hikers within earshot probably thought I was nuts, but I didn't care.
