The New Mexico license plate boasts
it's the "Land of Enchantment." And it is a pretty place
with wide open vistas, muted earth tones dappled with greens of juniper
and sage, and a more often than not cloudless dark blue sky.
New Mexico's culture is a mix of Native American and Hispanic influences.
Spanish adventurers came to the area in the 1500s searching for riches
and found none. Native Americans revolted against Spanish encroachment,
but eventually colonists and missionaries dominated the indigenous
people.
