Hard to believe this scene is from one of the northernmost areas of the Untied States, but it is! I associate moss like this with steamy, humid weather of the southeastern US.

Certain areas of coastal Washington state get lots of precipitation (up to 144 inches a year), mostly during fall, winter, and spring. There was not a drop of rain over several days in July when I visited Olympic National Park.
