“He doesn’t need any money; all he needs is his rucksack with those little plastic bags of dried food and a good pair of shoes and off he goes and enjoys the privileges of a millionaire in surroundings like this.” - Jack Kerouac
This is the backside of a tropical fern at Denver Botanic Garden's Conservatory. Light passes through the semi-transparent leaves adding contrast and highlights as they extend radially from a protective thorny stalk.

If you've never been to a tropical conservatory, you should! I'd rather see the plants in their native location, but this is the next best thing.

A conservatory typically is a huge greenhouse-like metal-framed glass or clear plastic enclosed structure. The temperature and humidity are kept at tropical levels which can be especially fun to experience on a winter day!

Some conservatories have separate sections that simulate distinct biomes such as tropical, temperate, and desert.
