“He doesn’t need any money; all he needs is his rucksack with those little plastic bags of dried food and a good pair of shoes and off he goes and enjoys the privileges of a millionaire in surroundings like this.” - Jack Kerouac
A healthy stand of cactus growing out of the red dirt. The red color of rocks and dirt around Sedona is caused by a high iron mineral content.

When iron comes in contact with our atmosphere it oxidizes. We know this as rust. According to the principles of chemistry, oxidation is when an electron is pulled away from a molecule creating a slightly different, and less stable molecule.

Oxidation on a cellular level in our bodies is not a good thing. And so this is where nutritional entities called antioxidants become beneficial to our health.

The opposite of oxidation is reduction, essentially adding to molecules and making something new. This is believed to be the Earth's original atmospheric condition when life originated on our planet.
