“He doesn’t need any money; all he needs is his rucksack with those little plastic bags of dried food and a good pair of shoes and off he goes and enjoys the privileges of a millionaire in surroundings like this.” - Jack Kerouac
A much photographed view of Cathedral Rock looking southeast across Oak Creek.

Cathedral Rock is one of four popular vortex sites in Sedona. You can hike or bike around the perimeter and there are several trail heads to choose from.

In Sedona a vortex is defined as a 'swirling center of subtle energy coming from the surface of the earth.'

According to one author, "The subtle energy at these locations interacts with who a person is inside...it resonates with and strengthens the inner being...and it can be an uplifting experience...and can have a positive effect for days afterwards."

Honestly, I felt no subtle energies at the three vortex sites I visited, but who wouldn't feel great surrounded by spectacular scenery like this?
