I'm Steve and this is a website
I've wanted to create for a long time!
I'd rather spend my time outside than in (in fact I'm writing this
on my laptop while sitting on a park bench). Artificial (indoor) environments
make me feel sluggish and claustrophobic. I'm the one looking for
a window to open even on the cold days...I was the one in grade school
staring out the window; counting down the minutes; waiting for the
final buzzer to make my escape.
I'm a successful endurance athlete, professional coach
to endurance athletes, web designer, ardent environmentalist, and
decent photographer—I hope :) In fact my fascination for photography
pre-dates most every other interest including the beginning of athletics
in my teens.
My passion for maintaining our environment is very strong. With this
website I can 'lecture' conservation and expound my views without
imposing—without 'getting in your face' so to speak.
For me, saving a moment in two dimensions is very satisfying. I've
been accumulating images for about 30 years and now I have something
to do with them all! This will force me to get the boxes of negatives,
slides, and prints organized :).
My Mom's side of the family were/are all accomplished artists (oil,
watercolor, graphic). Unfortunately I don't have the same creative
gift, except perhaps for aesthetic sensibility, an eye for composition,
contrast, and color. I also have a good technical sense of how to
make the camera cooperate ;).
The image below is Lake Tekapo on New Zealand's South Island. The
color of the lake is real—no tampering with it on the computer!
To the right is yours truly in the middle of a swing bridge on the
South Island's Routeburn Track. My camera is on a post with auto-timer
set, and I'm looking wondering if it went off yet. |
