There was a big fire in Yellowstone
National Park a while back. There are acres and acres of dead trees
(snags) burnt in the fire still standing like toothpicks.
The ground below can be very fertile with relatively new growth and
plenty of sunlight. This is one of those places; a high elevation
hillside with ground cover of wildflowers that wouldn't be there if
the trees were blocking sunlight. |
