I have mixed feelings about zoos. To see the animals up close is a treat, but I'd much rather see them in their natural environment.

Some will argue that the animals are well-fed and safe; creatures near extinction in the wild can be 'saved' by breeding in captivity; humans can learn about and appreciate creatures they otherwise never would.

I'm not so sure any of those reasons justify taking an animal out of it's environment to a life of incarceration, but I am guilty of supporting the practice by visiting with my camera.
